this is not your dad’s office.

19 Aug

I have been wanting to check out the popular LA burger and beer place, Father’s Office, for a couple of years now. My best friend Whitney has raved about it, and my parents used to hang out at the Santa Monica location “before it was hip.” Another LA blogger I follow, Left Coast Contessa, recently named it as her fav burger in LA, so it was clear I needed to get myself to Father’s Office ASAP. The last day of law school orientation seemed like the perfect cause for celebration – so last night I finally made it to FO with Whitney, her roommate Caroline, and my friend Krisse.

We went to the Culver City location (its closer for all of us) and had to hunt for seats – Caroline remarked that they must save money by not having to pay a host! Luckily, Whitney found us a seat in the far back corner and we went up to the counter in turns to order our dinner and drinks.

After scanning the menu, I narrowed in on my selection: a Stone IPA (obviously), the FO burger, and Krisse and I shared an order of sweet potato fries. While our meals weren’t cheap, everything was extraordinarily delicious.

admiring the myriad beers on tap.

my Stone IPA. a solid choice.

I am a self-proclaimed hop-head – but I just love IPAs so much: they go with everything…or at least I’ve convinced myself that they go with everything…

delicious sweet potato fries + aioli.

Caroline + Whitney loving FO.

the main event: the Father's Office burger.

This photo doesn’t begin to do this burger justice. The bun was perfect, and the toppings of arugula, carmelized onions, and blue cheese were a perfect combination. Who knew? We were a little bit hesitant at first when we heard that they’re very strict about no substitutions on anything, but now I totally get it. It would be a complete insult to take something off or add something onto this burger creation. We’ll definitely be back!

While Father’s Office wasn’t a cheap, it’s worth the splurge, especially if you’re celebrating something!

Hope everyone has a great weekend – I’ll be squeezing in a visit home to see a couple of friends and my family, running, and beginning reading for my classes…Oh man.

Question time: Who makes your favorite burger?

As I sit here in Madrid dreaming of my favorite burger it dawns on me that MY burger is right around the corner from YOU! At M Cafe! Their signature burger is excellent! Please add to your “must eat and blog about it for Kristen” list. Muchas Gracias! 🙂

Ah, I can’t believe I’m just seeing this post now! I swore I was subscribed to your blog, but apparently I wasn’t…SO I need to fix that asap. I’m still dreaming about this burger, btw. It might need to become a weekly thing…or maybe bi-weekly so we don’t get sick of it. 😉 Thanks so much for linking to my blog! xx

Haha, no worries and you’re welcome! That burger was amazing – I am going to be such a burger snob now that I’ve had that – and it will definitely have to become a routine thing!! 🙂

[…] This place was adorable – we sat outside on a terrace with twinkle lights and made friends with another table’s dog named Winston. (I even put aside my general ambivalence toward animals and showed him some love. Baby steps!) The food was delicious – especially the bread with EVOO and pesto combo that came out at the beginning. My hamburger was good and hit the spot after my first long week of class. I will say, however, that it doesn’t hold a candle to the burger I had last two weeks ago at Father’s Office. […]
