resolve 2013: the results

27 Dec

At the beginning of this year, I did a post highlighting all of my goals/resolutions and I thought it would be fun to do a re-cap of how I fared with my goals.

Run a Marathon – DONE.

I ran the Rock ‘n’ Roll San Diego full marathon in June. . . somewhat on a whim.  I did a half on Cinco de Mayo, and I figured if I felt good and strong after that I would just ratchet up my training, get a 20-miler in, and get the first full marathon under my belt.  It was HARD and the last 8 or so miles were REALLY trying but it was a great learning experience.

At least 3 half-marathons – CHECK

I ran three 13.1s in 2012 so I wanted to at least match that in 2013.  I ran five this year and ended the year with a two-minute PR.  Check out my race recaps here.

  • Surf City Half – 1:45:40
  • OC Half – 1:39:56
  • Long Beach Half – 1:40:40
  • Rock ‘n’ Roll LA – 1:42:42
  • Santa to the Sea Half – 1:36:58

Cross-train  – Part of the reason why I got injured in 2012 was due to an absence of anything but running. In 2013 I vowed to “lift, spin, and yoga more.” – DONE

In 2013, I incorporated spin into my routine way more — at least once a week in the first half of the year, often 2-3 times.  I started doing Body Pump regularly starting in the spring, tried crossfit, and have done yoga more often.

Go to SoulCycle more DONE.

My soul cycle love is no secret.  I didn’t make my soul habit a regular thing, but I squeezed in #SOULdates with Katherine, Whitney, and Michelle a couple of times. There is nothing like a Laura Crago class to get me back in the Soul Cycle zone.

Travel more – DONE
This was a bit of a cop-out of a resolution because I knew before the year started that I had some new places on the calendar for the year.  I saw my friends Jeff and Kate get married in Portland, Oregon, went to Vienna, Austria for a week for a law school moot court competition (so so fun), went to my friends’ Andrea and A.K.’s wedding in Chicago, and planned a weekend in NYC with some of my best college girlfriends. Such a great year of traveling (especially with the law school thing still being, you know, a thing).

Get Spin Certified DONE.

I got certified through SPINNING/Madd Dogg Athletics in June, started teaching at Gold’s Gym in July, and have been loving it ever since!

Be more positive – For this year, I wrote: “Basically this means I need to dwell and obsess on things waaaaay less. This may be the hardest one.”

I think this counts as a DONE. I got more involved in my city (Back on My Feet, @DTLARunning Group, and teaching spin).

Go to more shows/concerts – DONE.  I didn’t go to a ton — but the ones I did make it to were fun! This year I saw:

  • Adrian Lux and Morgan Page
  • Sound Tribe Sector 9
  • Purity Ring –> this was BY FAR my favorite
  • The Dan Band
  • Dewey and the Peoples –> the band my brother manages

Eat better – Eh.  I didn’t quite “lean paleo” but my friend Taylor and I did do a paleo challenge for a few weeks. I’m all about moderation — but I could probably continue to work on this.

How did YOU fare on your resolutions for 2013?

I’ll be back in a couple of days with my resolutions for 2014.  That even seems weird to type…

Way to knock out most of your goals! I didn’t set any actual resolutions but I think I had a pretty solid year.
